FSD 14.3.12 took me to the post office and parked itself.
Getting out was another story.

Tlyard sent me a package and I went to pick it up at the post office on FSD. Could it take me, park, and bring me back without me taking the wheel? Take me and park, yes. Bring me back, not quite: with home as the destination it went down dead-end streets and turned around in a house's yard.

Verdict

It parked itself. It got lost on the way back.

I've noticed improvements, especially in how it responds when I give it a little throttle and with speed humps and bumps: it doesn't handle them 100% yet, but it handles them better. It parked itself at the post office, quickly and without hesitating, and pulled out of the spot on its own.

But potholes and navigation are still a problem. I don't know if the dead-end streets were the maps, the navigation, or FSD itself, but it's definitely something Tesla needs to improve. 97% on FSD is a good number, but after what happened leaving the post office, that number doesn't tell the whole story.

This trip scores 7.8 (Good), with no safety flags. What costs the most is the potholes and the speed bump on the way out (PR roads), and that I had to drive it out of the side road myself (interventions).

The evidence

What it did well and what went wrong.

What it did well

  • It handles speed humps and bumps better. Not 100% yet, but it's noticeable compared with v14.3.10: it detects them and slows down earlier. On the way back it took the bump on its own at about 13 mph. On the way out I had to step in, so the score doesn't reward it, but the improvement is there. 6:09
  • The T intersection (leaving home), with a little throttle. It waited a long time; I gave it a little throttle and it went, made the turn correctly, and kept going. With older versions it got stuck in the middle of the intersection. This one is assisted. 1:04
  • It parked itself at the post office. It pulled in and parked quickly, without hesitating. With older versions parking was the biggest problem. 1:52
  • It pulled out of the spot on its own. I turned it on in the parking lot and it backed out by itself, with cars parked on one side, no problem. 2:27
  • On the highway, fine. After all that mess it drove the rest of the way to my neighborhood without me stepping in. 5:35

What went wrong

  • Dead-end streets and a house's yard. With home as the destination it went down dead-end streets, turned around in a house's yard, and went back into a street it had already been on. I cleared the destination, it went back to the first street, parked, and FSD turned itself off. 2:59 · 3:37 · 5:05
  • Potholes. Leaving home and arriving, I took the wheel: it was going too fast for that street. Two of the three interventions. 0:47
  • The speed bump on the way out. Even if it seems to detect it better, it didn't slow down enough to let it go over on its own. The third intervention. 0:39
  • The wait at the T (leaving home). It made the turn correctly, but it waits too long before deciding. 1:11
What this review does not say

A real test is not a lab.

This is the first v14.3.12 trip. That is why trip-to-trip consistency is not scored, and with 10 miles many questions don't apply: confidence in the score is medium.

In the loop, after FSD turned itself off, I drove the car out of that side road myself for about half a minute. I keep it as a separate note and don't count it as an intervention.

It is a real trip, with my car, my route, and that day’s weather. A different road on a different day may produce something else.
