What it felt like behind the wheel.

El carro completó la ruta. El problema no fue capacidad — fue confianza. Durante 142 millas, v14.3.2 estuvo en un estado constante de indecisión, especialmente fuera de las autopistas principales.

The car completed the route. The problem wasn't capability — it was confidence. Across 142 miles, v14.3.2 stayed in a constant state of indecision, especially off the main highways.

En autopista costera el comportamiento fue sólido, casi del nivel de v13. Pero entrando a Orocovis — carreteras locales, líneas borradas, parchos de brea, sombras de árboles — el carro se "asustaba" demasiado fácil: una sombra, una hoja moviéndose o un cambio de pavimento bastaba para que redujera velocidad o intentara frenar. Esto trajo la sensación del viejo phantom braking, donde uno maneja alerta en lugar de relajado.

On coastal highway the behavior was solid, near v13 level. But heading into Orocovis — local roads, faded lines, tar patches, tree shadows — the car got spooked too easily: a shadow, a moving leaf or a pavement change was enough to make it slow down or attempt to brake. It brought back the old phantom braking vibe, where you drive alert instead of relaxed.

El control de velocidad fue inconsistente todo el viaje. Probé los cinco perfiles — Sloth, Chill, Standard, Hurry, Mad Max — y ninguno se mantuvo predecible. En el mismo perfil Standard, en momentos iba 10 mph debajo del límite y minutos después 10 mph encima. Terminé cambiando perfiles manualmente todo el tiempo; no resolvía el problema, solo cambiaba el tipo de problema.

Speed control was inconsistent the entire trip. I tried all five profiles — Sloth, Chill, Standard, Hurry, Mad Max — and none stayed predictable. In Standard alone, sometimes 10 mph under the limit, minutes later 10 mph over. I ended up swapping profiles manually the whole time; it didn't fix the issue, it just changed the flavor.

Hubo momentos donde reaccionó mejor de lo esperado. Pero el balance del día fue claro: cuando tienes que monitorear frenazos falsos, anticipar reacciones extrañas y cambiar perfiles constantemente, parte del beneficio de FSD desaparece.

There were moments where it reacted better than expected. But the day's balance was clear: when you have to monitor false braking, anticipate odd reactions and constantly switch profiles, part of the FSD benefit disappears.

Autonomous avoided it

A fallen bumper on PR-22. FSD avoided it with no intervention.

Right after Arecibo, in the left lane, a piece of bumper from another car was sitting across the line. The system flagged it as an obstacle in time, adjusted its line inside the lane and kept going without asking for takeover. The kind of quiet maneuver that doesn't make viral clips, but is exactly what FSD is for.
