Tesla Is Developing Rear and Side Camera Views for Cybercab Riders

📍 TeslaNorth

Tesla is developing a feature that lets Cybercab riders open the rear and side repeater camera views on the cabin screen whenever they want. Tesla UI software engineer Evan (@CarCoder) confirmed it on X with the words “In development,” in response to a request from rider Dan Burkland. Currently the screen shows riders a live visualization of what the car detects, along with the map, trip ETA, music and climate controls, but not direct views from the cameras. Tesla did not say when the feature will ship, how the camera views would be opened, or whether it will also come to Model Y Robotaxis.

🔎 Why it matters: In the Cybercab, which has no steering wheel or driver, riders currently see only a visualization of the surroundings; the feature would give direct access to the rear and side repeater cameras.
📈 Upside: It would let a passenger check the rear and side cameras before opening the door next to a busy street.
📉 Risk: Not applicable.
